Medstead Players - 'Radio Variety Show' - May 2018

Compiled and Directed by Mike Overy and Nita Simpson

Radio Variety Show

The audience are invited to the inaugural broadcast of Radio Medstead's variety show. Featuring a pair of station announcers, plus a cast of fifteen performers, including live sound effects. In a series of comic sketches, we are taken on a roller coaster ride of some of the best of radio variety. Featuring new takes on the old radio classics: 'Listen with Mother', 'Dick Barton' and 'The Glums', complemented by an eclectic mix of other sketches.

The Radio Play was a resounding success, with many complementary comments received. Well done to everyone involved, especially the ‘newbies’, who all put on very credible performances.

'It is not often that a writer / producer can witness his creations being performed by another drama group, but I was lucky enough to see the Medstead Players performing their 'Radio Variety Show', which included parts from the Worthy Players' previous Worthys Festival production 'what I wrote'!

Medstead's 'Radio Variety Show' was a mixture of old and new and gave all of the audience a selection of comedy, monologues and drama to wonder at. The cast undertook varying roles with gusto and fun bringing the serial 'Richard Kings Barton' to life with a local theme and great sound effects. Various sketches ranging from the shipping forecast to learning American made the audience laugh, whilst the whole production was kept moving by the continuity announcers. A very enjoyable evening was had by all and hopefully this will become a regular item.
